Madeira Embroidery and Handicrafts highlighted at the Flower Festival 2024

Madeira Embroidery and Handicrafts will take center stage in this year's Flower Festival celebrations, through a set of promotional actions guided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicrafts Institute (IVBAM), whose main objective is to value these arts that are major parts of the identity of regional culture, boosting and contributing for their preservation and perpetuation.

Thus, from the 2nd to the 26th of May, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, Madeira Embroidery is highlighted on Avenida Arriaga, in front of the Funchal Cathedral. The Madeira Embroidery Pavilion has an exhibition, informative and commercial dynamic, including the participation of four authorized producers of Madeira Embroidery, namely: Abreu & Araújo, Bordal – Bordados da Madeira, Gês Bordados and Luís de Sousa.

This space will also feature the presence of an embroiderer on Wednesday afternoons, a prominent figure in this art, who will demonstrate her craft.

With regard to Madeira Crafts, with the aim of creating greater dynamics, this year, it will have two reference spaces, a pavilion located in Praça do Povo, from the 2nd to the 19th of May and in the Madeira Hanidcraft Shop, located on Rua dos Ferreiros, from the 2nd to the 31st of May.

The Madeira Handicrafts Pavilion is the result of a partnership established between the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) and IVBAM, as part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Laurissilva Forest's elevation to UNESCO's World Natural Heritage status.

“This Pavilion aims to highlight the connection between nature and the regional crafts that come from it, which is why arts and crafts workshops that integrate natural raw materials are organized in this space, in a dynamic of themed weeks.”
